Frequently Asked Questions

Support

Access

Do I access my DVR through your servers?

We offer an optional service of setting up yourdvr.xanview.com for you where you can have either direct access or access through our servers if the DVR is behind a firewall.

You are more than welcome to use a free service like DynDNS and others if you would not like this.

What Internet connection is required to use Xanview Monitor?

Unlike typical systems, we have designed Xanview Monitor from scratch to work on affordable consumer ADSL. The cheapest BT or Virgin connection will do. Recommended is 256kbit upload and above.

You will get near instant audio/video playback over Internet.

Another thing to note is events are organized with helpful event representative thumbnails, you know exactly what happened without even having to play the video.

CCTV

What quality CCTV can I expect?

CCTV is the central function of Xanview Monitor. We provide 640x480 25fps video from analog cameras and up to 1920x1080 5fps from IP cameras.

Unlike many other systems, we provide up to 12 analog audio channels per DVR and support recording audio from most IP cameras.

We also use highly tuned latest generation H.264 video compression so you can expect a typical of 1 to 3 months of recording on an 8 camera installation.

Is PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) functionality supported?

Yes, on analog, there is PTZ support for Pelco-D/Pelco-P and on digital, there is PTZ support for Panasonic IP cameras. We can develop support for practically any camera and protocol on request.

Why does live framerate appear low on the demo?

Live framerate is dynamic and changes to match the amount of motion on screen. The framerate changes from 1fps when there is no motion, up to 15fps where there is motion. Actual fps depends on bandwidth availability.

Network

Is there anyway to see encrypted data?

The only way to see encrypted data is to install a special software package on each PC being monitored.

We do not provide such a software package, but we can recommend many suitable solutions.

What can I expect from network monitoring?

We integrate network monitoring by installing our server on a SPAN or mirroring port on your existing network switch or a switch we provide.

We cannot see what the computers are doing, we can only see what they are sending and receiving to/from the network/Internet.

This includes: websites visited, unencrypted messages and emails sent and traffic information. You cannot see encrypted messages because the private key used to encrypt is never seen on the local network.

Access Control

Can I limit which locations certain users can see/control?

Yes. You have fine grained permission controls. You can restrict users to only see live cameras, or events and pick exactly which locations you want them to see and control.
